Spyro 1 is good, factoring in that this was a PS1 title and we were still in the relatively early days of 3D platforming, they did a fine job avoiding pitfalls.

So I've never actually played any of the series before, I've witnessed a minute of someone playing one of the PS1 games back in the day but that's all I could tell ya. I've experienced some weird glitches and it's clear that it wasn't polished as much as the other two.įinished Spyro 1 yesterday with the platinum. Also, it's a shame that the Spyro 3 remake is the sloppiest of the three. Most of the variety is good, but when it's bad, it's pretty bad. Examples include the awful controls on the submarine and ice hockey, one of the Hunter missions where you shoot UFOs and finally that awful Sheila sidequest where you have to squash mushrooms. Unfortunately, some of the minigames are terrible. I really like the variety in gameplay and the world & NPCs the game has to offer.

I'm halfway through the remake and I prefer it to the other two. Spyro 3 is the one I have most nostalgia for. or he can circle around all the bad guys in the most awkward path ever. Also, what's with that alchemist quest? It's one of the most dumbest things I've seen in a video game. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but it's a certainly a good game that holds up well even today (which is rare for PS1/N64 era games). The orb objectives give the game more variety that it badly needed from Spyro 1. NPCs give the game more flavour, the levels are a bit more memorable. That said, the core gameplay is good enough to keep you going and I beat the game in two sittings. The levels (aside from Tree Tops) aren't really that memorable. Playing it for the first time in two decades, and I feel it's a merely decent platformer. I had completely forgotten everything about Spyro 1 and 2 so it's like playing completely new games as far as I'm concerned. Max%'d both Spyro 1 and Spyro 2 with the Platinum trophy and all Skill Points to boot. Even Handel and Greta still have their cute accents.

I love the reimagined character designs though. Is gamma the word? The blacks and darks are all faintly blue instead. One thing they could tone down with the visuals is the blue photoshop exclusion layer on all dark colors. But I miss the screams of the cowleks when you flame them. I’m almost 100% done with Autumn Plains in Spyro 2. Always chase trains on the way to surrounding connecting areas, but only ever chase them against traffic so you’re not wasting time catching up to them. Complete non-moving items all in an efficient route, don’t miss half of them and come back which wastes time.

Go for linear chained/spread items last or on the way to other items that are better clustered together. Start a level going for nearest items in dense proximity all together (like chests) first. You can charge or drop to do clever flight turns. Press Triangle/Y to come to a dead stop in flight and use it to make abrupt turns. I think I like Tree Tops from Spyro 1 the best and Zephyr from Aquaria Towers from Spyro 2. What’s everyone’s favorite level per game?
